S and BTS Global, the joint venture between Business Telecommunications Services (BTS) and SoftBank, has appointed Norioki Sekiguchi as its new CEO.

This leadership change, revealed during Capacity Middle East 2025, signals a transformative new chapter for the company as it continues to expand its footprint across APAC and the Middle East.

Sekiguchi, who has served as VP of the Global Business Division at SoftBank Corp. since 2019, brings extensive leadership experience and industry expertise to his new role. He succeeds Ricardo Olloqui, who has served as CEO since the venture's inception in 2017.

Mobily lands Africa-1 subsea cable in Saudi Arabia, boosting regional connectivity

 

 

Saudi telecom giant Mobily has successfully landed the Africa-1 submarine cable in Saudi Arabia, establishing new high-capacity links to Europe and Africa.

Announced at Capacity Middle East 2025, the landing will enable Mobily to extend its global network, opening up new opportunities through interconnects in Egypt, France, Sudan, and Italy.

The cable lands in Duba on the northern Red Sea coast and is expected to be fully operational in early 2026.

According to the company, the partnership is set to “revolutionise the digital landscape” by combining its strengths to offer more reliable and faster connectivity for customers.

Mobily extends partnership with iBASIS to scale roaming services

 

Mobily is doubling down on its partnership with iBASIS, renewing their multi-service IPX agreement to handle soaring international traffic and ensure seamless roaming.

The renewal, unveiled at Capacity Middle East 2025, will see iBASIS support Mobily’s surging mobile data traffic, with the operator reporting a tenfold increase in international traffic in the past three years.

The partnership will improve Mobily's network scalability when managing traffic surges during peak periods, such as the Hajj, Ramadan, and tourism seasons.
